Description
Thiamine Hydrochloride occurs as a white or almost white, crystalline powder or colourless crystals. When exposed to air, the anhydrous product rapidly absorbs about 4% of water. It melts at about 248° with some decomposition. One gram dissolves in about 1 mL of water and in about 100 mL of alcohol. It is soluble in glycerin, and is insoluble in ether.
Application
Thiamine hydrochloride is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin B1 deficiency and beriberi caused by it. It is also used for adjuvant treatment of peripheral neuritis, myocarditis, dyspepsia and congestive heart failure.
